iHub - Antibiotic Simulation

screenshotAntibiotic Simulation

In this lesson, the simulated bacterial population contains different traits (pores) which give some an advantage over others upon the introduction of antibiotics into the environment. Those with the advantageous trait survive, reproduce, and are more common in the population. Students develop this understanding by observing that the bacteria with three pores have an advantage over the other three variations of bacteria since there are fewer places for the antibiotic to enter the cell. This causes a shift in the proportion of bacteria with three pores in the population.
